Apple iPad Is Coming to Verizon Wireless, Repair Service Available at Dr. Cell Phone

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Apple and Verizon Wireless announced this morning a partnership that would bring the iPad to Verizon Wireless Stores across the U.S. on October 28. While the collaboration won’t see Verizon compatible technology embedded in the iPad, it will bundle the iPad Wi-Fi with a Verizon MiFi 2200 Mobile Hotspot.

Verizon Wireless will offer three iPad Wi-Fi + MiFi bundles: the iPad Wi-Fi 16GB for $630, the iPad Wi-Fi 32GB for $730 and the iPad Wi-Fi 64GB for $830. Verizon will also introduce a special monthly access plan for iPad customers of up to 1GB of data for $20 a month. In contrast, AT&T offers up to 2GB of data for just $25 per month. Verizon iPad users will, however, have the option of purchasing the standard 5GB data plan for $60 per month.

The announcement comes as speculation behind a Verizon iPhone have reached unprecedented levels. Just days ago, “a person who is in direct contact with apple,” leaked information that a CDMA iPhone was in development and would hit shelves early next year. The rumors gained further credibility as it was picked up by both The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

Now Verizon customers can rest assured that the same quality repair service that Dr. Cell Phone has been offering for AT&T customers would be available to all the Verizon iPad owners as well. The most common problem with iPad, “The Cracked Screen Replacement Service” would be available right from October 28th for Verizon users with fast turn around time. Other repair services such as volume button, sleep button, home button, wi-fi and 3g connectivity solutions would be made available.

Report:iPhone 4 Glass More likely to Shatter! Repair Options available at Dr. Cell Phone

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

A recent study conducted by SquareTrade Warranties found that glass breaking on iPhone 4’s increased by 82% compared to iPhone 3GS models.

The study surveyed 20,000 iPhone 4 accidents covered by SquareTrade, the largest independent warranty provider, and compared it to the iPhone 3GS. Not only are iPhone 4 screens almost twice as likely to crack as their predecessors, but owners’ accident rate for the device is 68% higher than for the previous device. Almost 5% of iPhone 4 users report an accident within the first four months of owning the device.

Screen damage makes up a vast majority of iPhone 4 accidents, the study said, accounting for more than 4/5’s of all reported accidents. The study also noted that at least a quarter of all accidents involved the glass covering the back of the device.

The reason for all the glass breaking? SquareTrade explains: “Not only has the scratchable surface area doubled, the new aluminosilicate Gorilla glass used in the iPhone 4 doesn’t seem any less likely to break than previous models.”

As far as non-accident related hardware malfunctions, fewer than 0.5% of claims make up that category — in line with the 3GS.

“It’s important to take the accident rate into perspective,” SquareTrade said. “Overall, the iPhone is still a very well constructed device, with a non-accident malfunction rate much lower than most other consumer electronics.”

Though the report seems intriguing and of-course having a broken iPhone 4 could be very frustrating experience at times. Good news is Dr. Cell Phone offers iPhone 4 cracked glass repair service at very affordable costs with an average turnaround time of one business day. If you manage to get your shattered iPhone 4 to one of the Dr. Cell Phone Repair centers, the highly experienced technicians can repair your iPhone while you wait.

is Verizon iPhone a Rumor ? Repair Service a Reality

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Many were hoping for a big announcement at the last Apple event earlier this month, that would confirm or deny the latest rumors of a Verizon iPhone, but Steve Jobs stuck to a script that kept the subject off the table. Now, only a few weeks later, Verizon iPhone rumors have resurfaced, and this time leaks are coming from the actual technology companies that are said to be developing iPhones for Verizon’s CDMA network.

Rumors resurfaced last Friday, just 24 hours after Verizon’s CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, suggested that the iPhone would not be a Verizon reality anytime soon. According to a report by Digitimes, the latest rumors can be traced back to Taiwan-based hardware maker Pegatron, who will reportedly start manufacturing a Verizon-compatible iPhone in November. Other rumors say that Verizon is waiting to roll out their LTE 4G network for the iPhone, which should be out by the end of 2010. There are also leaks stating that the CDMA/LTE iPhone is already being tested on Verizon in Boston and component manufacturers are suggesting that Apple is preparing to build at least 3 million Verizon capable iPhones in December to prepare for a January 2011 launch.

Whether iPhone for Verizon is a Rumor or Reality, Dr. Cell Phone will continue to offer the Great Repair Service all across the united States and Canada. The iPhone Repair Service would be extended to the CDMA technology to help the Verizon iPhone users in future. “Not much of the hardware changes in CDMA except the reception unit which decodes the signal along with Antenna Design” says the senior repair technician at Dr. Cell Phone.

Facebook Might be Working on a Phone, Sources Say

Monday, September 20th, 2010

The smartphone war has heated up over the last few years. While there were plenty of smartphones and PDAs out there in the wild well before the launch of the original iPhone, we all know what happened to the market the moment the iDevice hit the scene. And now, as our smartphones get smarter, and there’s further integration with our favorite social networking sites –like Facebook–, it’s come to TechCrunch‘s attention that the social networking giant is now currently working on their very own, low-end phone.

Reportedly, Joe Hewitt and Matthew Papakipos have been drafted into the project of building the “Facebook phone,” and “are secretly working on the project” right now. All of this is coming down the pipe from a “source who has knowledge of the project,” as all of these things usually do. Facebook is apparently concerned with the presence that Apple and Google have in the market, and the way that they have so eloquently integrated social networking into their devices. We’ve seen how well that Android integrates the service, and there’s apps in the App Store to make sure that your contacts in your iPhone are synced, too. Apparently, Facebook sees these companies as competitors now. However, the report suggests that Facebook would actually market their phone in the lower-end, where it wouldcost something like $50 or less. We’re not sure that’s necessarily a direct competitor to the iPhone or any high-end Android device.

There’s plenty of questions in here. But, as Facebook quickly clarified, they aren’t working on a phone. However, it looks like they went out of their way to put a “not going to happen” sticker on this rumor. Most companies would have just said something along the lines of “We do not comment on rumors,” or something to that effect. But, no, Facebook’s PR team managed to put a lot of effort into their denial, saying that Facebook is continuously finding new ways to integrate their services, but that they are notworking on a phone.

Both Hewitt and Papakipos have worked in the mobile space, and we imagine that if anyone anywhere near Facebook would be named in this report, it would be them. But, does Facebook really see an opportunity to make a super-cheap device that integrates your contacts into Facebook, despite the fact that many people out their already have a device that does exactly that? If TechCrunch is accurate in their speculation and sources, then it looks like within the next year or so Facebook will pop out their own “Facebook phone.” Will the masses race towards it like the company would certainly hope they would? Guess we’ll just have to wait and find out. Let us know in the comments what you think of a Facebook phone.

Skype on Fring is Dead. Any other option for Video Chat ?

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Remember the halcyon days of last week, when the Fring iPhone app supported video calls over 3G to any Fring or Skype user? Fun while it lasted. Today comes news that Skype has blocked Fring altogether. Or did they?

Dr. Cell Phone Provides repairs for iPhone 4, HTC EVO 4G and other video calling devices

The reported move ends a beautiful four year relationship between Fring and Skype. After the updated Fring app launched, a huge volume of calls caused necessitated that Fring “temporarily reduce support” to Skype. At that point, according to a Fring spokesperson, Skype “demanded that [they] NOT restore connectivity.”

As often happens in a messy breakup, Skype has a different version of events, stating unequivocally that “there is no truth to Fring’s claims that Skype blocked them, it was their decision and choice to withdraw Skype functionality.” At the same time, they make clear that Fring violated Skype’s terms by “misusing the Skype software in ways which it was not designed for and which does not scale to meet consumer demand.”

So in a nutshell, if I’m parsing this correctly: Fring introduces great Skype functionality foriPhone 4 video chat. Demand for said functionality causes Fring to temporarily pull Skype support. Pulling Skype support suddenly violates Skype license agreement, ergo Skype will no longer play nice with Fring. Or not, depending on who you ask.

The fact remains that no matter how much he said/she said gets thrown about here, we all just lost a pretty killer feature.

This whole ordeal also raises a bigger question: why is there no Skype app for iPhone that supports video chat? Or that does iOS4 background calling? It’s clear that Skype is acting defensively in this case; I just wish they had something more robust that they were defending, since third parties like Fring have to date been our only option.

we understand how painful it is when the Screen on your loved video chat device (iPhone 4 or Evo 4G) breaks,  thats why we continue to offer same day repair service for Cracked Screen repair on all higher end PDA’s.  Do recommend us to any of your friends and family to get their phone back on track in no time.

If you guys know any other application that supports video chat on Apple iPhone 4 or EVO 4G  feel free to share your thoughts and comments.

iPhone 4 Gets an Interesting Physical Keyboard

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

The iPhone might have a great on screen text input mechanism. But sadly, there are people on the face of this planet who still prefer the feel of a real keyboard to the nothingness of a touchscreen text input method. Unfortunately, since the smart alecs at Apple chose to ignore these poor mortals by choosing not to make the iPhone bulkier by adding a physical keyboard, they were left with no choice but to turn to the likes of RIM and Nokia who still cater to them by churning out devices with excellent QWERTY keypads.

But what if you want the UI of the iPhone and the feel of a physical keypad at the same time? Well, help is here in the form of Nuu Mini case for the iPhone 4 that adds an interesting physical keyboard to the phone. Now, if you’re wondering how the keyboard connects to the iPhone, let us inform you that its not via the dock connector rather, via Bluetooth!

This is expected to go on sale by end of 2010 and would be priced at around the $60 mark.

Flash for iPhone iOS Now Available, Thanks to Jailbreak

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Adobe’s Flash technology is now available for iOS devices, thanks to a new application for jailbroken iPhones and iPads. Coming from Comex, the same man who developed the browser-based JailbreakMe tool, Frash lets iPhone users view Adobe Flash content on their phones.

Frash is in its very early stages, and works with the iPhone 4, 3GS (with iOS4), third-generation iPod Touch, and iPads with the latest software (3.2.X), the developer says. To install Frash, you will also need to jailbreak your device, which can be done easily at one of your nearest Dr. Cell Phone Repair Centers.

Once you have jailbroken your iOS device and installed Frash (Dr. Cell Phone will install it for you), you can view Adobe Flash in Mobile Safari. Not all Flash content will work though. Frash is in the early development stages (version 0.02), so only basic Flash animations will display, mainly advertisements. Here’s a video showing Frash in action on an iPhone 4.

Apple’s relationship with Adobe’s Flash technology on the iPhone was bumpy from the beginning. The company refused to include the technology into its mobile devices, saying that it would cripple the experience and battery life. Apple CEO Steve Jobs also explained at length in a public letter his reasons to sideline Adobe’s technology.

Some iPhone users were not happy with Job’s decision, and looked into getting flash on their iOS devices. Comex’s Frash should keep those users happy momentarily, until a better version of the software is developed.

As for jailbreaking, the procedure came into legality two weeks ago, when the U.S. Copyright Office ruled it as an exemption of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). However, Apple doesn’t agree with jailbreaking, and says that the procedure will void the warranty of your iOS device, meaning no free repairs in case something goes wrong. To fix that, you can always use the Restore option in iTunes.

Here is how to Improve your iPhone’s Battery Life

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

The new iPhone’s brighter screen, GPS and 3G connectivity are nice, but you know what’s nicer? Not running out of batteries halfway through the friggin’ day. iPhone 3G battery life may or may not be shorter; even the geek gods at Ars don’t have a definite answer. But chances are with the new apps, multitasking and faster internet, you’re using it a lot more often. Here’s how to live with the iPhone’s battery life while using it a whole lot.

1. Turn down the LCD. The new iPhone’s screen is brighter, but you shouldn’t be running this thing at full heat if you want to save battery power. I keep mine at 10% brightness. Change this underSettings -> Brightness.

2. Wi-Fi new network scanning off or Wi-Fi off. While you’re not checking data for more than a few seconds at a time, I’d turn off Wi-Fi and in general, I’d turn off Wi-Fi scanning. It uses less power than EDGE or 3G but when you’re not using your network connection, you might as well shut it down. Change this under Settings -> Wi-Fi. Same goes for Bluetooth.

3. Toggle off 3G till ready. Here’s something I wish Apple had automatically managed. I use 3G for browsing, YouTube, app store purchases when not around a computer, or during important calls. For all other uses, including email, weather checking and Twitter, etc, I use EDGE. This setting is under Settings -> General -> Network.

4. Turn off Vibrate in Games. Playing a game with vibrate happening frequently is an unnecessary battery suck. If you can turn it off, turn it off.

5. Limit use of A-GPS tracking. GPS tracking is still pretty useless after you’ve gained your bearings, since there isn’t a turn by turn navigation mode for driving. I exit out of maps once I’ve got the directions in my mind, and if I lose myself again, I just start maps up once more.

6. Buy Apps and Songs in iTunes. You can buy songs over Wi-Fi or Apps over 3G, but that doesn’t mean you should. I’d recommend buying Apps at your computer if you can help it, and syncing them to your iPhone instead. As an added bonus, you’ll be picking up a charge while you’re tethered to your computer.

7. Set the Autolock to 1-minute. The iPhone’s autolock is good at shutting off the screen if you forget to when placing it in a pocket, purse or just tossing it on a table after a call. I set mine to the most aggressive, 1-minute, but there are times where I set it to 2-minutes. This setting is under Settings -> General -> Autolock.

8. Use programs with 3D less often. Not surprisingly, I’ve noticed that when I play games rendering 3D, battery life drops. Using the graphics chips more intensely will crank up power usage, but maybe the drain is also because of the nature of gaming: Unlike email or browsing, gaming is a full-time, full attention endeavor that also keeps the CPU, GPU and LCD going full-time. (I’d like to think this is a more useful tip than “don’t use your iPhone” but maybe it’s not something you can avoid if you’re a gaming addict.)

9. Set Push to Off, and Set Fetch Time. Push email isn’t that useful for me because I know I’m getting emails all day long and that I have to be checking all the time. Push does use more juice than the fetch mode, which checks for calendar, contact and email syncing at set intervals of 15 minutes to an hour. I set mine to 1 hour unless I’m out of the office. If you seldom update your contacts and calendars, you might even be better off syncing by cable to iTunes, while you pick up a charge.

10. Stay Juiced. If you’re at computer or in a car, you should try to use a cigarette adapter or USB cable to pick up a few minutes of charge. Every bit helps!

Even after following all the steps mentioned above your iPhone drains quickly, then its surely time to visit one of your nearest Dr. Cell Phone Repair centers to get the battery checked out and replaced if needed.

Jailbreak – Unlock iPhone 3GS iOS 4.0 at Dr. Cell Phone

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

As many of our customers ask us the difference between Jailbreak and Unlock, here is the difference from wikipedia.

iPhone Unlock and Jail Break at Dr. Cell Phone in Dallas & Houston

iPhone Unlock and Jail Break at Dr. Cell Phone in Dallas, Frisco, Addison & Houston

Jailbreaking is a process that allows iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch users to run third-party unsigned code on their devices by unlocking the operating system and allowing the user root access. Once jailbroken, iPhone users are able to download many extensions and themes previously unavailable through the App Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia. A jailbroken iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch is still able to use the App Store and iTunes.

Jailbreaking is different from SIM unlocking, which, once completed, means that the mobile phone will accept any SIM without restriction on, for example, the country or network operator of origin. Jailbreaking, according to Apple, can void Apple’s warranty on the device,[1] although this is quickly remedied by restoring the device in iTunes.

We have a quick announcement for all the iPhone 3GS users out there. Now iPhone 3GS jailbreak & unlock service is available for all versions of iPhone OS including iOS 4.0.

iPhone jailbreaking (and all cell phone unlocking) made legal

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

While the courts have been busy making decisions about digital rights, Washington has also been having its say on copyright law, at least as it relates to the iPhone and other handsets. Key new rules arrived Monday morning.
Most notably, the FCC has made the controversial practice of “jailbreaking” your iPhone — or any other cell phone — legal.

Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone at Dr. Cell Phone

Jailbreak & Unlock iPhone at Dr. Cell Phone

Jailbreaking — the practice of unlocking a phone (and particularly an iPhone) so it can be used on another network and/or run other applications than those approved by Apple — has technically been illegal for years. However, no one has been sued or prosecuted for the practice. (Apple does seriously frown on the practice, and jailbreaking your phone will still void your warranty.) It’s estimated that more than a million iPhone owners have jailbroken their handsets.

Apple fought hard against the legalization, arguing that jailbreaking was a form of copyright violation. The FCC disagreed, saying that jailbreaking merely enhanced the inter-operability of the phone, and was thus legitimate under fair-use rules.

The upshot is that now anyone can jailbreak or otherwise unlock any cell phone without fear of legal penalties, whether you want to install unsupported applications or switch to another cellular carrier. Cell phone companies are of course still free to make it difficult for you to do this — and your warranty will probably still be voided if you do — but at least you won’t be fined or imprisoned if you jailbreak a handset.

Dr. Cell Phone provides iPhone Jailbreak and Unlock solutions for all versions of iPhone including iPhone iOS 4.0.
