Google launches iPhone app for Google+

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

Google+ has an iPhone app, and it’s now available for free download in Apple’s App Store.

At first blush, the iOS version of the Google+ app doesn’t look all that dissimilar from the Android version.   iPhone Repair at Dr. Cell Phone

And that’s not a bad thing as the main features between the two apps are in place — the Stream, Circles and Huddles.

Of course, the mobile apps are limited and aren’t nearly as capable as the desktop in-browser version of Google+. For example, there are no group-video-chat Hangouts available in the apps.

As of about 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Google+ app for iOS was available in the App Store via iTunes but not on iOS devices themselves. Vic Gondotra, who is heading up Google+, said on Google+ that the app “should be rolling out over the next few hours.”

The Google+ iOS app works with any iPhone and iPod Touch running iOS 3.1 or newer (sorry iPhone 1 users).

Add Dr. Cell Phone on Google + and stay tuned to the latest Apple updates and more importantly updates on iphone repairs.

Verizon iPhone 4 Confirmed: Repair Options already available.

Friday, November 19th, 2010

Verizon iPhone 4: Has Verizon CEO Admitted To Getting iPhone? Verizon has finally seemingly confirmed what appeared to be an obvious fact for ages. Verizon Wireless will indeed be offering a device called the Verizon iPhone 4 in the near future, if various anlyses of his recent statement are to be believed. Apple though has chosen to keep mum on this matter even now that people have really got fed up of asking.

However, amidst the resentful silence of Steve Jobs, the Chief Executive Officer of Verizon Wireless has spoken up and made sure that everyone is hearing. Verizon CEO has confirmed that Apple has indeed offered the big reds a piece of the fourth generation of the iPhone but he also said that the smartphone would not be launched by him.

He said Apple would be entitled to the launch announcement for the same. May be he feels that is only just given how Mr. Jobs is splendid at introducing new products to the market and to the media and the buyers.

No, the Verizon boss did not say it all at once but saved his skin from the people by admitting what really is nothing but a fact. This time around the big reds CEO had more to say than the arbitrary possibility of an iPhone deal. The statements from the carrier have just gotten bolder and bolder. One of the key features of the iPhone ads being aired by Verizon is a complete thrashing of AT&T as the network carrying the iPhone from Apple.

However, there had also been reports of T-mobile being in the frame as far as the iPhone 4 is concerned; but alas that is not to be. T-Mobile has confirmed that they do not have the iPhone 4 yet, and the Verizon iPhone 4 is the only real news. However, facts keep changing with time and we hope this one does too.

As far as the repair services are concerned specially the cracked screen repair or the antenna repairs, most repairs that are already available for AT&T iPhone 4 will remain the same for Verizon iPhone 4. Dr. Cell Phone continues to offer  30 min turn around time on most iPhone’s brought in for repairs. Mail-in repairs turn around time remains as low as one business day.

is Verizon iPhone a Rumor ? Repair Service a Reality

Monday, September 27th, 2010

Many were hoping for a big announcement at the last Apple event earlier this month, that would confirm or deny the latest rumors of a Verizon iPhone, but Steve Jobs stuck to a script that kept the subject off the table. Now, only a few weeks later, Verizon iPhone rumors have resurfaced, and this time leaks are coming from the actual technology companies that are said to be developing iPhones for Verizon’s CDMA network.

Rumors resurfaced last Friday, just 24 hours after Verizon’s CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, suggested that the iPhone would not be a Verizon reality anytime soon. According to a report by Digitimes, the latest rumors can be traced back to Taiwan-based hardware maker Pegatron, who will reportedly start manufacturing a Verizon-compatible iPhone in November. Other rumors say that Verizon is waiting to roll out their LTE 4G network for the iPhone, which should be out by the end of 2010. There are also leaks stating that the CDMA/LTE iPhone is already being tested on Verizon in Boston and component manufacturers are suggesting that Apple is preparing to build at least 3 million Verizon capable iPhones in December to prepare for a January 2011 launch.

Whether iPhone for Verizon is a Rumor or Reality, Dr. Cell Phone will continue to offer the Great Repair Service all across the united States and Canada. The iPhone Repair Service would be extended to the CDMA technology to help the Verizon iPhone users in future. “Not much of the hardware changes in CDMA except the reception unit which decodes the signal along with Antenna Design” says the senior repair technician at Dr. Cell Phone.

BlackBerry Users Willing to Swap for an iPhone

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Almost 40 percent of BlackBerry users would switch camp to an Apple iPhone, a recent study into smartphone brand loyalty shows. Google’s Nexus One is almost as desirable, according to the study by Crowd Science (PDF link), which shows that a third of the BlackBerry users polled were willing to switch their device for the Android-based phone.

BlackBerry is still the most popular smartphone brand in terms of market share, Crowd Science’s study shows, but many Research In Motion devices users would be more than happy to move to a different smartphone platform if given the chance.

The study also found that the majority of smartphone users claim to use their devices for both business and personal purposes. BlackBerry users were the most likely (7 percent) to use their smartphone for business purposes only. But wait, there’s more!

If the iPhone can do video calling, will AT&T’s network handle the pressure?

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Apple is known for keeping a tight lid on any information related to its upcoming products. As a result, rumors fly high and it’s not until the day of release or the official announcement of a new product that the public knows for sure what’s coming from Apple. To that end, it’s no surprise that the latest rumor around the “iPhone 4G” supporting video calling is getting everyone excited.

Here’s some quick background information: video calling on the iPhone has been rumored for a while, and even before the iPhone 3GS made its debut, there were rumored photos floating around, depicting a spot for a front facing camera. Well, the 3GS has been out for a while now, so the people are hoping for a refresh in the form of the “iPhone 4G”. What makes these latest rumors around video calling a bit more possible, though, is that a substantial mobile operator in the UK seems to be the source of them.

According to FSM.com, the UK’s O2 has updated its latest iPhone plans and in this update is the addition of prices for video calls. While that might be enough to get the rumors really flowing, the system files in the latest SDK are also showing the ability to do video calls.

All signs are definitely pointing towards video calls coming–at least to the UK. The bigger question will be whether or not AT&T will offer the video calling and if it does, will the network be able to handle it?

Recently AT&T mentioned that it wasn’t worried about its network’s ability to handle the traffic from the iPad since it figured most people would use it on Wi-Fi. With the next generation iPhone potentially offering video calling, one can only assume that AT&T will once again be called out for its network capacity issues.

As an iPhone user I would like the ability to do video calling but definitely don’t want to see my quality of service suffer. It seems that my iPhone is finally working the way I need it to on the AT&T network, but with the introduction of the iPad and the potential of video calling, my iPhone will no doubt suffer the consequences.

Apple Defends iPhone Partner AT&T

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Despite complaints from iPhone customers, Apple is standing by AT&T, the exclusive carrier for the smartphone in the U.S.

In a conference call with Wall Street analysts on Monday, Timothy Cook, Apple’s chief operating officer, acknowledged that AT&T’s mobile broadband network is slower than AT&T would like in cities with a high concentration of iPhones, such as New York and San Francisco. AT&T says it is in the process of improving service.

“We have very high confidence that they’ll make significant progress in fixing them (traffic problems),” Cook said.

He noted that outside of the problem areas, Apple’s own research shows that iPhone customers are having a “great experience” in using the smartphone.

Cook made the comments after the company reported a 50% increase year-over-year in profits in the fiscal first quarter, to $3.38 billion. Revenue increased by a third to $15.68 billion.

Cook also addressed questions about developers’ complaints with Apple’s process for deciding whether to accept an application for the App Store, where customers can choose from among more than 100,000 applications, many of them free, for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Some developers say Apple is inconsistent and sometimes unfair in taking down or refusing to post an application.

Cook said the majority of applications are approved within 14 days of submission, and that most of the rejections are due to bugs in the application’s code. “What you have here is something where the noise may be much higher than the reality,” Cook said of the complaints.

Cook deflected any attempts to discuss Apple’s upcoming product announcement. On Wednesday, Apple is scheduled to unveil a new product at a San Francisco event. While Apple has not said what it will introduce, industry watchers and many analysts believe the company will launch a tablet computer that will be a combined electronic book reader, multimedia player, and personal computer.

Cook declined comment on whether he believed the new product would generate significant revenue in the current fiscal year. “I wouldn’t want to lessen your joyous surprise when we unveil our latest creation on Wednesday,” he said.
